You’re not feeling happy with your smile–whether it’s the yellowing of your teeth or the shape of your teeth. But there is hope! The good news is that many things can be done to add more confidence to your smile.
Teeth Whitening
One option that can enhance the shade or color of your teeth is teeth whitening. While whitening is a pretty straightforward process, there are a few things to consider before jumping into whitening.
Teeth whitening only affects or alters natural tooth structure. Fillings, crowns, and any bridges will remain unaltered by whitening products. This is important because if you have fillings or crowns that match your current natural shade, whitening could make fillings and crowns more obvious when you smile.
However, if you are having a crown or filling done near the front of your mouth, whitening can be an excellent option for brightening your smile before having the crown or filling done. Once you whiten your teeth, your dentist can now complete the filling or crown and match it to your new brighter shade. Just be mindful that in the future, your teeth will likely work their way back to their natural shade in the future. A little whitening can brighten them back to where they need to be!.
Dental Veneers
Another option for enhancing the shape or color of your teeth is dental veneers. Dental veneers are a work of art in that they can significantly change your smile.
Dental veneers require more work than dental whitening. Your dentist will remove a layer of your tooth and replace it with a porcelain dental veneer. The longevity of the veneers is excellent. Veneers made out of porcelain material are smooth and resistant to staining.
Dental Implants
Dental implants replace the root of your tooth while allowing for a solid foundation for a crown or bridge to be attached. Dental implants are considered a more involved dental procedure because they are an outpatient surgical procedure.
Dental implants are usually a two-step process. First, the outpatient surgery is performed, and the dental implant is placed. It takes three to four months for the bone to integrate around the dental implant. After this healing has taken place, the restoration is seated. The procedure is then complete.
This dental procedure has allowed for many remarkable transformations in our patient’s smiles.
Which Option Is Best For You?
Choosing the best option for you comes down to what your needs are. Teeth whitening is an excellent option for patients with mild dental conditions. Wanting a brighter smile and whiter teeth are often why patients choose to go with the simplest option of teeth whitening.
If you have mottled teeth or teeth that could benefit from reshaping, dental veneers or crowns may be a good option for enhancing your smile. Dental veneers and crowns tend to be the choice if you have moderate dental needs, and they can’t be solved by whitening alone.
If your tooth structure isn’t solid due to deep decay or problems with gum disease, you may not be a candidate for dental veneers or a crown. Dental implants may be a great option for you. Dental implants have helped many patients in our office, even those with very significant dental needs.
